The chapters explore key issues such as ageing, single households, non-heterosexual living arrangements and parenting. Moreover, many of the issues addressed, such as the growing diversity of family, the increase in single-person households, and the implications of an ageing society, are applicable to other mature, late-industrial societies.

Employing both multi- and inter-disciplinary approaches, this book combines textual analysis of contemporary television, film, literature, manga, anime and other media with empirical and ethnographic studies of families in Japan and in transnational spaces. As such, it will be of great interest to students and scholars working across a number of fields including Japanese culture and society, sociology of family, gender studies, film and media studies, literature and cultural studies, and gerontology.

A classic

I read this text during my masters degree. It's nice to see the title is still around and going strong, with subsequent authors piggy-backing on many of the principles he introduces in this text. I have relied on the principles espoused in this text when considering how to design interactive courseware. I still refer to this classic book now and then as a refresher.

Mayer discusses why his principles of design work by providing supporting research and even includes boundary conditions that may limit the success of a particular design principle. If it were me, I would probably have organized the chapters differently, but the information is good, regardless of the order. Definitely good for and Instructional Designer to reference.

Mayer is the expert when it comes to multimedia and its relationship to learning. The first edition was fundamental in my studies on personalized narration in the online environment. Mayer presents information in a sensible, clear manner that is easy to follow and makes sense. I am excited to see a second edition and look forward to reading it cover to cover. THE TRUTH!!!!

I am a lover of the TRUTH and though many can't handle the TRUTH it is the very thing that makes us free. I love the transparency that the author illustrated in every stage of her life and could relate very well to many of her insecurities and challenges as a woman. There's a lot that can be said about this story, as with any story, but you just gotta love the resiliency that was displayed in every setback of this young woman's life and to that I say well done. Hopefully, other women will read this story and see that just, because you start one way doesn't mean that you have to stay that way.

As real as it gets. Candid, honest, and insightful. It's rare for a person to be as open as Nikiya "Starr" Newton is in this book. The Ratchougie Hustler reads like a one on one convo with no filler. There's joy, sorrow, pain, and success. I recommend this to anybody that is struggling to improve their life and need inspiration.

But the book, I might be great for you to refer to with all the laws and organizations you guys have. I gave it 4 stars because of the look of the textbook.

Yes, we have Jesus in us....so where are all the miracles? Or are we just not telling of them?
This very unique person and special in so many ways....yes it is Allison Restagno....the author I am speaking of. In her book she tells us of 50 true stories of real-life, firsthand modern-day miracles....
We do know that the supernatirual way of so many others will reveal so many stories of miracles. Allison, however, has shared these 50 modern day miracles and as she tells us of the miracles; she also informs us about the contributor. Wow!
This Destiny Image published book is just excellent.
Oh, I should tell you that Allison Restagno is a music teacher and song writer......so she tells us of her testimonies and experiences of life of modern-day miracles.
All of us Christians, I bleieve, have our firsthand stories to tell, but read these 50 stories and cry, be full of Joy, and learn just how our Lord has worked and is working today. Love it! Read it! Learn from it! It is excellent!

I've come to realize even more, people are not as intelligent as they think. That God works in ways that knowledge can't comprehend. If we release our human understanding and rely more on faith. Perhaps we can see more miracles.

About the Author
Beaufort B. Longest, Jr., is the M. Allen Pond Professor and Director of the Health Policy Institute in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. Professor Longest holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds memberships in the Academy of Management, AcademyHealth, American Public Health Association, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. He is an elected member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society in Business as well as of the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health. His research has led to numerous peer-reviewed articles published in respected national and international journals. He has authored or co-authored 10 books and 30 chapters. Professor Longestâ€™s current research and scholarship address corporate citizenship, policy making, and governance and management in health settings. His work in these areas has underpinned his most recent books, Managing Health Programs and Projects and Health Policymaking in the United States. Longest consults with health care organizations and systems, universities, associations, and government agencies on health policy and management

Kurt Darr is Professor of Hospital Administration in the Department of Health Services Management and Leadership and Professor of Health Care Sciences at The George Washington University. He holds the Doctor of Science from The Johns Hopkins University and the Master of Hospital Administration and Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Darr completed his administrative residency at Rochester (Minnesota) Methodist Hospital and subsequently worked as an administrative associate at the Mayo Clinic. After being commissioned in the U.S. Navy, he served in administrative and educational assignments at St. Albans Naval Hospital and Bethesda Naval Hospital. He completed postdoctoral fellowships with the Department of Health and Human Services, the World Health Organization, and the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration. Dr. Darr is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the District of Columbia and Minnesota Bars, and serves as a mediator in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He serves on commissions and committees for various professional organizations, including The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. He is a voluntary consultant to several hospitals in the District of Columbia metropolitan area. Dr. Darr regularly presents seminars on health services ethics, hospital organization and management, quality improvement, and the application of the Deming method in health services. He is the author and editor of several books used in graduate health services administration programs and numerous articles on health services topics.

Comprehensive Read

This book redefines the term "comprehensive". It is thick, dense, and full of a lot of great information on health service organizations and health systems. Probably not the best choice for an introductory 500-level course, but good as a reference nonetheless.

Great book for the novice stargazer!

I love this book! It totally Fisher-Priced the world of astronomy for me. My husband has always been interested in the stars and constellations and I got him this book for Christmas to give him a refresher. I am reading the book to help along with the star gazing. The book has a glossary as well as tips for the equipment you may want to purchase. The author makes it an easy read that if I can follow, anyone can. Someday we hope to have grandkids and it would be awesome to share the stars with them.

A little boring reading front to end, but better as a reference.
Large portion of the list is double- or multiple-star.
So, it is good for small telescope and/or light polluted urban sky.
