The book includes chapters on Nazism, the German struggles with memory, the new German debates about the "final solution", Israeli memory of the Shoah and the Shoah in present historical consciousness, the genesis and various interpretations of the "final solution", the extermination of the Jews in Europe, the historicization of National Socialism, and the views of Martin Broszat. About the Author
Born in Germany, Dr. Dietmar Schellenberg is one of those few people who through a life-long association with domestic animals have come to really understand and truly communicate with pets, and dogs in particular.

He has personally trained and supervised the training of more than eleven thousand dog/handler teams. As a practicing Animal Behavior Specialist, licensed Schutzhund/ Police Dog Judge, Senior General Manager of a large Pet Care Facility, lecturer, writer, consultant, Canine Specialist for the Technical Advisory Service for Attorneys, etc., his ultimate goal is to make the man/dog relationship more meaningful, and more enjoyable, for both partners.

A Book for All Reasons

I 've raised and trained German Shepherds for the past 25 years, and am really impressed with the book TOP WORKING DOGS: A TRAINING MANUAL. I highly recommend it to anyone who plans on training a puppy or dog in tracking, obedience or protection work. Whether you're a person who just plans to train a pup basic manners and obedience for around the house, or if you're a top trainer, - I suggest you read this book! It covers all the phases of training and explains how to start puppies at a young age (which I thoroughly agree with) . The book is very easy to understand for a young or inexperienced trainer, yet it provides a lot of very good information for the experienced trainer or someone who wants to make a top working dog. Not only are problems that you may run into confronted, but several good solutions are given for each problem. All three areas of training- tracking, protection and obedience, - are thoroughly covered and are well illustrated. There are a lot of methods talked about in this book which I have never read before and that are very good. You can use this book to start training your puppy and it will take you through advanced training. It is refreshing to read a top training manual that is not heavy or boring - there are even some cute jokes in it! I like the author's psychological principles , too, - and if you follow his instructions you'll not only have a top tracking, obedience and protection dog, but will have a very meaningful relationship with your dog. On top of that, the whole training process will be enjoyable for you and your dog. I've learned some good training methods myself from this book and I always recommend it to anyone who buys my puppies, if they're interested in training.

Just what I was looking for

Some of the other reviews of this book somewhat intimidated me. I think any bad reviews are entirely incorrect or the reviewer had rather frivolous expectations. This is a serious book that, once read, helped me to get my older male Rottweiler heeling correctly in less than a week. Great structure to the book. Step-by-step to the point of redundancy if you read more than one chapter at a sitting, but when using this as a reference, that detail helps you to remember every last point. I would have given this book 10 stars if I could.

Abundant information, small package

I recently obtained a German Shepherd Dog from a rescue and she breezed through obedience training. I became interested in Schutzhund as something to keep her engaged and occupied.
I found this book to be extremely informative, even for someone with no experience in Schutzhund. Like some of the other reviewers stated, there are few pictures and no photographs. There is no fluff. Everything presented is useful.
The author provides valid insight into dog psychology as it relates to training. There is no "dog whisperer" nonsense here, just straight forward training.
The book is very comprehensive and I frequently refer to it not only ahead of training sessions, but during them.

Charming, fascinating Q&A book for Disney lovers

I learned about this book through the Disney Parks Blog and I knew I had to order it. I am reading it like a novel as the book is divided into categories, almost like chapters, and then in each category are questions from fellow Disney fans and the answers from founder and chief Disney Archivist Dave Smith. Dave has been doing his job for over 40 years and clearly has acccess to a wealth of Disney information.

As mentioned the book is broken down into subcategories such as "Disneyland" featuring questions about Disneyland and "Walt Disney" featuring questions about the legend himself just to name a few. I found the section on Disney shorts to be absolutely fascinating as I was unfamiliar with a lot of the things discussed. For example, did you know there are 75 Silly Symphonies? Other things learned: Do you know when Mickey's birthday is? Do you know what kind of dog Goofy is supposed to be? Do you know why Goofy talks and Pluto does not?

Those are just an itty bitty fraction of the questions asked by readers in this book. Even if you are a huge Disney fan and know many, many obscure facts, I am very certain you will come away after reading this with several new tidbits of knowledge to impress your Disney friends.

Dave Smith put together a wonderful book of exciting and interesting information. I highly, highly, highly recommend this book if you love Disney as much as I do. Excellent read!

Disney Trivia book is far from Trivial

I was intrigued by this book, having studied Disney in all its many facets, since 1972. The price seemed right, and I was eager to find out what I didn't know yet. I have spent hours reading and rereading this book. There were times when I wished the author had gone into more detail with his answers. But I still regard it as being a valuable and entertaining source of Disney information.

Undeniably Thorough and Accurate

This is the most comprehensive and useful reference book I own. Every engineer and technical person should own one!

But be warned, if you're not already an technical person/engineer and/or genius, it may be a little hard to follow (very involved calculus topics are covered in just a few pages, for instance). If you're looking for something to use as a quick reference for all the subjects you took long ago, this is it - if you're looking to learn something new in great detail, buy a subject-specific textbook first.

Every engineering freshman needs a copy of this book before starting college.

Like I said, if you're an engineering major, this is THE book to have before you start your freshman year. I see that there's a 2009 edition, but it has quite a few less pages. I'd stick with this earlier edition, or mine. I had the 1975 edition when I started at R.I.T. in 1976 in mechanical engineering. All the basics are in this one book. There are all the necessary unit-conversion tables in what has to be the best layout I've ever seen; all the tables are very easy to use and EVERY possible conversion you need is there. There are all the basic mathematic formulas (e.g., areas & volumes of all geometric shapes) also in the best and easiest-to-use layout I've ever seen. And that's just the start. Just about every engineering topic is covered to some degree. Like another reviewer said, if you have just one handbook, this is the one to have. Actually, when I was in college, I was just about the only engineering student with a copy of this handbook. It's as if it's a well-kept secret. I was a mechanical engineering student, so I also had Mark's handbook for ME's. If you do get a copy, don't go telling all your classmates that you have it. Keep it to yourself, and hide it in your desk. I'm serious! Make it your "ace in the hole." That's what I did, and I can't imagine going through engineering college without a copy! My grades directly reflected the fact that I had this book. And, once you're out in the working world, this book will continue to help you. This book is my "first-go-to-book" whenever I'm faced with something new. And when you're out in the world, you'll be faced with new and interesting things all the time. Why not read up on things in Eshback before you go into a meeting with the big-shots and wow 'em? If you're an ME, your list of reference books should read: 1) Eshback Handbook, 2) Marks' Handbook for ME's, 3) Basic Dictionary (e.g., Webster's Collegiate), 4) Basic Thesaurus (ditto on Webster's), 5) Machinery's Handbook, 6) Dictionary of Technical Words & Terms (e.g., McGraw-Hill). Remember, you need the latest edition of any course book, but your reference books don't have to be the newest. College is expensive, and any of these reference books can be 20+ years old and still do a great job in helping you out. After all, engineering doesn't necessarily change all that much from year to year. The basics are the basics in engineering, whether it's 1975 or 2015. Thanks for reading my review!

About the Author
ROB KIDD sailed the Seven Seas under Captain Jack Sparrow for six months. My Grandson Likes Jack Sparrow

I purchased for my grandson, age 12, and he loves the book. This book makes number 6 in the series for him. He highly recommends reading. In fact, he is reading the books for the second time. He stated, "I like the real Jack Sparrow."

I bought these books for my 12yr old daughter. She's a huge POTC fan & has gobbled these books down. Now she has the whole set (9 in all). She enjoyed them immensely & wishes more were available.

Big hit with a seven year old

A little boy who doesn't like to read much is entranced by these Jack Sparrow books. They're well written for kids with a sense of adventure. Like the Hardy Boys or a dozen other series before them, they deliver a consistent and familiar character in cleverly worked plots. The one thing I'd like to change would be to add few more illustrations. All you get here is the illustration on the cover.

much like the first "Point and Speak Japan" book I purchased ...

I will write a more detailed review in the future, but wanted to assure fans of the Yubi shashi (point and speak) books - yes, this book is written for English speakers wanting to learn more Japanese. I may post pictures if the author or Amazon allows it. With the popularity of Japanese food, I think this book would benefit hundreds, if not thousands of traveling "foodies". This book is a classic for me, much like the first "Point and Speak Japan" book I purchased in the Narita Airport years ago. Its great to be able to buy this book (in America) and not have to go through the airport and deal with Ebola screenings from the TSA.
