D.L. Jackson proves there’s no age limit on attraction in Beauty and the Brigadier. As part of the 1Night Stand series, Madame Eve’s exclusive dating service creates a match between Brigadier General Eli Wells and supermodel Anya Volkov. They agree to a “predate” at the military base. Eli plans to give Anya a taste of his world to see if she’s got the right stuff.

Although it is snack-size in length, the storyline is engaging, particularly since it features an older couple. The potential exists for more development, but in keeping with the series theme, it isn’t meant to be a full-blown novel. Readers should be aware that there is not a lot of depth to the story, making it a quick read.

The characters generate plenty of heat, providing a spicy framework as the two put Madame Eve’s matchmaking skills to the test. I would classify this as being on the lighter end of the erotic genre.

Quick and light, Beauty and the Brigadier is a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the fact that the main characters in the story weren’t young – but rather middle-aged. It was nice to read about two mature people who are brought together without all of the dramatics or need to rehash their old wounds. The story is more about finding someone to share time with than the million and one ways to bone.

The characters are well written, particularly our two lovers in the story, Eli and Anya. They are pretty well developed considering the length of the story, and it was fun to read about how life brought them together. I also like the clever twist on the plot – a Beauty and the Beast-esque storyline that worked well here.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a welcome relief from the usual run-of-the-mill romance novel.

Love a 1Night Stand story !!

Cute short story ! Eli, is a General and grouchy since his wife died. Anya has just been told she's too old to model anymore. She needs a refreshing boost in her life. He needs a date for the Ball. They get together for a "pre-date", and sparks fly. She is also ex military and quite an athlete. Eli and Anya are perfect for one another. Deep thought filled characters, cute romance and hot sexiness make this a great story. ENJOY !!!

About the Author
Allison Gemmel Laframboise discovered yoga in college when she was both curious about the practice and looking for a way to ground herself through challenging life events. Seven years later, in 2003, she trained with Yoganand to become a yoga teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. She has since studied with Yoganand and other renowned teachers in numerous depth trainings, and holds a professional-level teaching certification. Allison graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University and has experience in psychology and public health research. Today her work is a combination of her life’s true callings—teaching yoga and African-style hand drumming; running her yoga-inspired jewelry line, Prasada; helping to manage the yoga team at Kripalu; and her greatest passion of all, mothering her sons, Kai and Tayo. Allison is calmed, energized, and renewed by living on a lake in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, where she loves to spend time enjoying life with her family. Once her boys are a bit older, she plans to get back to hobbies like playing piano and guitar, snowboarding, and waterskiing. Born into a strict fundamentalist Christian family, Yoganand left this religious tradition behind at age 16. Yoga—in particular the yoga of Swami Kripalu—offered him another way to channel the dedication to spirituality with which he was raised. He studied with Kripalu Yoga masters in India and the United States, and taught at Kripalu for more than 15 years before founding the Pranakriya™ School of Yoga Healing Arts. I love this book

I love this book. It is written for the modern practitioner and the instructions for the breath practices are clear, concise and appropriate for all levels. There are even daily Pranayama practice plans for both the beginner and the intermediate student. What I am most grateful for, however, is the philosophy and the "discussion about pranayama as an element of the tantric hatha yoga path....... We examine the past to understand the present". As a Kripalu Yoga teacher I am indebted to Yoganand for sharing the wisdom of Swami Kripalu’s teachings and sharing his own personal journey. I am indebted to Allison for the talent and dedication it took to write this book. And now to the practice.........

Improved my knowledge and practice in such a beautifully clear and succinct way

Really terrifically well-written and resourced book that enhances my own pranayam practices. The two authors develop the topic in a completely engaging way from a place of deep knowledge. I have recommended this book to ALL of my fellow yoga instructors and to other yoga practitioners. I hope these two authors work together again. I will refer back to this book again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Tantric Path Unfolds with Gusto

This book brings Yoganand's fiery and effective teaching to life on the page, transforming esoteric Tantric ideas into a fascinating journey through one's own inner experience. Despite the ancient roots of the material, it is expertly conveyed in clear text and helpful graphics, with main points bolded. (I always read with highlighter in hand, but found every passage I moved to underline had already been emphasized). The book becomes a page-turner as the roots and relevance of this ancient path unfold. The reader will come away with an enhanced understanding of the history and development of yogic techniques and philosophy, as well as an increased motivation to practice. Thus, the appendices with suggestions for structured practice are especially helpful. This book will be a resource for years to come. It captures and preserves a valuable strand of yoga history and makes it accessible to all who can benefit.

After four years of concentrated work, the second edition of this Price Guide is now in print. This second edition has more than double the number of photos, and the new larger format has resulted in a vast improvement in the quality of the detailed pictures of both obverse and reverse views.

The main purpose of this Price Guide is to satisfy all collectors; beginner and advanced.

It is a reference for prices as well as on the differences between the various orders, decorations, award documents, award cases of issue, and miniatures. No fantasy pieces are included, or projected orders which were never realized.

This Price Guide is grouped into contemporary topics. Each topic is consecutively numbered, e.g. 07. Each specific subject within the topic is then consecutively numbered, e.g. 07.01. Finally the individual orders and decorations within the subject are once again consecutively numbered, e.g. 07.01.01. The orders and decorations are individually described by characteristics, types, document, case of issue, miniature and where relevant by additional comments from the author.

If e.g. 'Miniature' is not listed, it indicates that at the present time, either it is known that no original examples were produced, or that no production is known at this time, or that only fakes are known. This applies for all items.

The valuations are based on accepted average pieces. Condition, material, manufacturers quality and of course rarity also influence the value. Prices also differ due to variations in regional and international demand.

An LP (Liebhaberpreis) indicated against the price means that the piece rarely appear for sale and so an average price cannot be determined and such rare pieces will fetch whatever the purchaser is prepared to pay.

Only a fraction of the total range of existing award documents are included, due to the large range of variances in style of printing, and other criteria such as the awarding authority, nationality of the recipient, signatures, units, etc.

Miniatures are extremely difficult to price, as these are not so fervently collected. I have only taken these miniatures which are known to me as unquestionable originals. In any case, miniature do not exist for all decorations.

Cases and packets of issue are described and priced as far as is possible.

The author's remarks are intended as brief, background information where, due to lack of space, it is not possible to write detailed specialised articles.

Lastly, the book is FULLY bi-lingual, German and English. Every word has been reproduced in both German and English.

Emotionally gripping!

Wow...this was a surprise from Monica McCarty. Since this novel was barely reviewed and not glowingly, I was hesitant to purchase it. I was pleasantly surprised. It had a number of unexpected twists and went in directions I didn't expect. The main characters were very multi-layered and complex....both having good and bad sides to their personalities. They each made many mistakes and paid the price for them. I liked that they were so much more than the typical hero and heroine of the average historical romance. I really felt the emotion of what they were going through and shed a few tears at their pain. Any book that can make me cry must be exceptional as it rarely happens. It tells me how invested in the characters I was and how strong the story is to draw me in so completely. I also want to mention how hot the love scenes were...scorching hot!
I would recommend this novel to those who are looking for an unusual historical romance with some raw, darker and deeper elements running through it.

My least favorite Monica Mc Carty book.

I have read most all of Mc Carty's books and, to be honest, this is my least favorite. Her writing is still good, although this book dragged in places and then skipped some storyline in an attempt to keep the book moving. It began as heartwrenching, but it never really broke through that mold. Although the main characters seem to heal at the end of the book, there is no joy in this story. I only felt their agony, mainly because they never seemed to feel anything but that emotion. Even at the end, the happiness that we should have expeienced with the characters never materializes. I found myself simply depressed. I want to come away with emotion at the end of a book, but this book seemed to evoke only one emotion in me and that was sorrow. Simply not an edifying read.

The Unthinkable

Monica grabs your attention from the very beginning and she won't let go until the very end.......leaving you wanting more. I don't know if she plans on making a series from this story, but I can only hope.

There are a couple of her characters in this story that I'd love to see developed into something more and there is one particular unsavory ass that I'd love to see his downfall.

However, the two main characters in this book are torn apart from the very beginning and their journey back is a long and arduous one. With lots of bumps in the road ahead of them, some large and some small, makes the coming together that much more poignant. With tragedy, betrayal, mistrust, and a deep unwavering love (which neither one totally understood), they finally come together again. Still not totally convinced, Genie cannot give herself fully to Fitz until she looses him.....or she thinks she has.

Beautifully written and a departure from her Highlander series, this Ton story is well worth the adventure Ms. McCarty takes you on. Highly recommend this book. Happy reading! Cheers!

okay for quick board review

the supposed links to emedicine and uptodate dont work, nor does the link to flag and report problems. I'm on the second part of the 10 part questions and there have been a few mistakes. the answers are not descriptive which is fine but it would have been helpful if the links to the external sites worked so the answers could be researched in detail.

Okay book if you have $60, otherwise there are better review books.
